If you’re not arriving at your DnD session in full cosplay every week, you’re doing it wrong. I know this game is supposed to be all about imagination, but would it truly hurt to put a little extra effort in? Yes, my mind is capable of imagining that you are indeed an Elf named Elron, but you could help me out a little by wearing some little pointy ear caps on your ears. It would go a long way. Or maybe you could do a little makeup to make yourself look more wizardly than you currently do. 

Throwing on a little spirit gum and slapping on a long white beard sounds like a great idea to me.
All to say, DnD is all about how you play it and who you play it with. Sure, there are some hard and fast rules, but it’s mostly about the connection you have with your own party. That’s what makes it so fun.
