Sometimes real life can feel a lot like science fiction. I mean, think of all the things that robots can do that we couldn’t previously imagine outside the realm of books and movies. Life moves at a breakneck speed, and it can be very hard to keep up with. You can be feeling like Squidward in that one episode of SpongeBob where they get transported to the future, and he can’t handle it and starts screaming «FUTURE» with a desperation that feels eerily familiar. But these types of stories can help us make sense of the world around us. 

They can take scary concepts and bring them down to a size that feels manageable for a human brain. There is so much in the world that is hard to wrap your mind around. It is the job of fiction to help us do that. This is why we keep coming back to sci-fi as a genre. It has endless capacity to move and entertain us. As long as there’s human thought, there can be new ideas. And in science fiction, those limits are constantly being pushed.
