Do memes make us happy?
Yes, yes, they do.
Although it’s far more complicated than the 10-word text splashed over a funny image, memes have a way of uplifting our spirits without fail. If you’re having a bad day at the job site, your car glitch started this morning, or if you just woke up on the wrong side of the bed, there’s really only one sure-fire cure: Memes.
Snort-laughing and blowing a small amount of air at your nose while staring at your phone is one way to dial down your overactive thoughts to a simmer. Funny reels, TikToks, and silly little pictures may seem like they’re benign in the grander scheme of the greater good, but it’s sometimes priceless to feel happy. With a semblance of a smile creeping up at the edge of your lips all because of a cat eating mac n cheese or a dog meme brightening your feed, memes have the power to turn things around.
They may not cure world hunger or initiate global peace agreements, but memes can cure the common man of the blues.
