Aunt-in-law isolates herself from family after her siblings-in-law unintentionally leave her out of a family decision concerning their mother’s housing situation: ‘Now we’re stuck in this cold silence’

When the matriarch of a family starts thinking about moving to a home more suitable for their physical needs, especially when they are coming into old age, it’s important to let them know that they’re well-supported. Too much support could cause more harm than good, however, because no elderly person wants to feel coddled and incapable of doing things on their own. Independence is sought after by everyone on this planet, and elderly people are no exception.

Sometimes, emergencies happen, and not everyone can be notified of every little detail of another family member’s life, especially if you must act quickly to either remedy a situation or kickstart something.

Speaking more specifically, the woman in this next story explains that her grandmother had switched apartments because she was seeking a home that didn’t require her to use stairs. The woman’s aunt-in-law was not clued in on the apartment application process, so she only first heard of it after everything was said and done.

Now, the woman’s aunt-in-law is bitter and has completely isolated herself from the family on the grounds that the family refuses to involve her in anything significant. To me, this seems like an overreaction. What do you think? Scroll below.
