If you’ve ever worked in food service, you know that spills are a big part of the job. Workers constantly have to sweep and mop up food that has fallen on the floor and keep trucking along like it never happened. The worst is breaking a plate or dropping someone’s hot food right before them. The humiliation of dropping a fully made meal in front of a person ready to consume said meal is inexplicable.

For some food jobs, it’s a lot lower stakes if you drop some food on the floor. If you work at a bakery and drop a chocolate croissant before handing it to the customer, you can grab another one. Problem solved! There is a rare case when dropping something on the ground in front of a customer results in the dropper getting fired, which is highly unorthodox. One ice cream shop worker was the exception to this rule.
