People Debate How Bad the Early 2010s Were for Popular Music

Once we get to a certain age, nostalgia becomes a powerful force. We can’t help but reminisce on the highlights of the good old days, even if there weren’t that many to speak of. A lot of us tend to think back on the culture that was in our younger years with a fondness — which is why we’ve got to sit up and take notice when people start trashing them instead.

If so-called trend forecasters are anything to go by, the early part of the last decade is meant to be coming into fashion again (I’m still not completely sure what «indie sleaze» means, and at this point, I’m too afraid to ask). However, a recent Twitter thread has drawn attention to the fact that not all of it is worth revisiting. When @ConceptHuman tweeted that 2013 had «the worst billboard top ten of all time», plenty shared similar views. There were a few outliers who claimed some of the surrounding years were even worse, though. If there’s one thing that most of us can agree on, it’s that we should never go back to a time when stations were playing Imagine Dragon’s «Radioactive» on repeat.
