Retail worker declines to come in on their day off after management fired 3 of 6 coworkers, management ‘reconsiders [their] reliability’: ‘What clothing store is slammed at 8 AM?’

When you have a day off scheduled, all your hopes and dreams go toward that day. Especially if you’ve been working a lot that week. You might be pushing all of your plans, errands, and self-care rituals onto that day. You’re imagining how good it’s going to feel, and how much you’ve earned it. It helps keep you afloat while you’re working, giving you a light at the end of the tunnel.

It’s no wonder, then, that if you suddenly get asked to come in on that day off, you’re probably going to be pretty resistant to it. You might even simply decline, as is your right as someone who’s not on the schedule that day. This is a completely reasonable thing to do, and your managers have to be prepared for the reality that you can and will say no. This doesn’t stop some managers from completely mishandling this type of situation, though.
