Nobody should have to make their livelihood at the expense of their family members.

Work and family can prove to be a problematic mix for many reasons, and one of these is that those who work together or in the same industry may end up taking money away from their relatives. There is no participation trophy for competing in the markets of employment or business. The only reward is the cold, hard cash we all rely on to earn a living. When you are in the same industry, it can seem like there is a finite amount of that to go around.

Nonetheless, there are people who want to bring their family and their livelihood together. Some see it as a way of creating a legacy or being able to support one another. In these cases, the most important way to proceed is to always communicate openly and clearly. It is horrible to feel like you are being undermined in the workplace, and even worse when it is being done by somebody who is related to you. Unfortunately, there are plenty of individuals out there who are willing to put aside their relationships with others in order to get ahead.
