Teens dine and dash at restaurant, server snitches on them by messaging their moms on social media: ‘One of the moms came and paid the bill’

Movies love to romanticize the act of dining and dashing. Cue a group of carefree teens sprinting from a neon-lit diner, laughing breathlessly as the staff yells behind them. One of the most iconic examples is Grease, when Danny and the gang act like hotshots sneaking out of Frosty Palace, jukebox blaring in the background. Hollywood treats it like it’s just a little rebellious fun.

But in the real world, it’s anything but glamorous. Dining and dashing is theft, plain and simple. When you skip out on a check, someone has to cover it, and usually it’s the server. In a lot of restaurants, especially in the U.S., servers are forced to pay for walkouts out of their own tips or paychecks. Imagine working a double shift, only to end up losing money because someone else decided to be edgy.
