32 years since we met the best friend group in New York City…

Maybe it’s just me, but I perfectly remember the first time I watched an episode of Friends. Admittedly, it was not 32 years ago, since I was not even born yet, but I was a 14-year-old teenager who was immediately enchanted by the iconic characters and insane humor this show introduced me to, and since that first episode, I was forever changed…

The first Friends episode I watched was «The One Where Ross Finds Out», the very episode that Ross and Rachel finally get together. I obviously didn’t know how anticipated this moment was, when everything the two have been feeling towards one another was coming to a head, but I still found this episode hilarious and wanted to know as much about the characters as I could.

Which led me to the very beginning. I met the whole gang, fell in love with their dynamic, and started the journey every Friends fan cherishes. I remember how excited I was when Monica and Chandler started dating, the tears I shed when Phoebe had the triplets, and the shock I felt when Ross said Rachel’s name at the altar. 

This show has gotten me through a lot, especially as I compare my progress as an adult to the journey the six friends are having. What can I say? It makes me feel better to know that Rachel was still a waitress when she was 28, and that none of them knew who they were going to spend their lives with when they turned 30. Life is messy, and the show, as funny as it gets, is also a reminder to be kinder to ourselves and let time do what it does best!
