In many ways, there has never been a better time to be a fan of The Lord of the Rings.

Never before has the fandom had such an endless stream of content regarding Middle-earth. From games to movies to silly memes, there always seems to be something on the horizon. The legacy of J.R.R. Tolkien can be found in all kinds of different media.

That being said, most fans would agree that no new material can hold a candle to the originals. The novels continue to stand as some of the most influential works in fantasy literature, and Peter Jackson’s film trilogy is still widely regarded as a triumph of cinematic storytelling.

Still, appreciating the classics does not mean that we can’t also enjoy the more lighthearted side of the franchise. One of the most entertaining aspects of the modern fandom is the Lord of the Rings memes. So many moments and characters have been transformed into comedy gold, proving the sturdiness of their creation.  The memes are a fun and accessible way to bring the sneaky little hobbitses together.

In many ways, the sheer proliferation of related funny tidbits has made meme culture into a celebration of everything LOTR. It allows longtime fans and newcomers alike to be entertained by the antics of Middle-earth. It may not be as moving and epic a quest as Tolkien’s original stories, but it is a reminder that great fandoms thrive when people continue finding new ways to enjoy what they love.
