The moment the blue light came on, the living room furniture had to be rearranged. Coffee tables were pushed aside, the couch was moved a few feet backwards, the wrist straps were secured (or not secured at all), and everyone believed they had the athletic ability of an Olympic champion.

You soon realized Matt was better than you at every sport, no matter which one you picked or how much effort you put into the game. But for siblings, the competition was still going strong. Every game had a clear objective: proving who was the most talented person in the house. Confidence was everything, and one lucky result could be used in your favor or against you for the rest of the week. So you were all in. You had to focus, and playing quietly was never an option. 

Even creating Miis was fun and competitive. My cousins and I used to play a game where whoever designed the funniest face or found the strangest hairstyle won. And the actual game hadn’t even started at that point.

Years later, Wii nostalgia is still strong because the console was never just about what happened on the screen. It was about the whole family and friends crowding into the same room, laughing at each other’s Miis, arguing over whose turn was next, and insisting that a rematch was necessary. Gaming became cardio when you decided to play Just Dance. Oh, and if you played bowling, your parents joined in. Grandparents wanted to have a try too, and the living room became everyone’s favorite hangout. So these Wii memes are a trip back to revisit the console that made us move, laugh, and break one or two house decorations. Or, in the worst case, the TV. 

The truth is, the Wii misses out on billions by not making an updated version with a newer console. No other console could turn a quiet Sunday afternoon into such a wholesome household event.
