For something which most working adults are completely reliant on, pay can be a very awkward topic to discuss. A simple discussion about salary with a co-worker can be the thing that takes your relationship from dumb in-jokes and a shoulder to cry on to frosty looks across the breakroom. This is before you even approach the idea of trying to ask your boss for a raise; no matter how much you may deserve it, there’s every chance you will get laughed out the office. 

It’s not often the case that you can retaliate in a way like u/NonVeganMillennial did, but boy, is it satisfying. After their boss refused them the 15% salary raise they asked and claimed they couldn’t do any more than 5%, they decided to take matters into their own hands by contacting a friend who worked in recruitment. Soon, their former colleagues decided to follow suit. 

Fellow Redditors were impressed with the ballsy move, although some lamented that they didn’t have as great of an escape as OP. Not everyone has a place where the grass is greener, unfortunately.
