Working with your loved ones always sounds like a good idea, especially if they’ve been down and out. We’ve all got that one brother or cousin who claims his life isn’t together because nobody has ever given him a fair chance. He’s been floating around from underpaid gig to underpaid gig for years and has never had anything stable and profitable. He’s a nice guy, and you love him with all your heart, so it seems like an incredibly virtuous move to get him a job at your company. After all, what could go wrong? He would never betray you, right?
If you’ve only known someone on an interpersonal level and not a professional one, you can never know how they’ll be in the workplace. While some people really do need that one opportunity that will help them rise to the occasion, many others don’t fully appreciate the blessings they’ve received.
