We’ve all seen cop shows. We know how they’ll bring a suspect into a dark, concrete room illuminated by one rickety hanging lightbulb. We know how they’ll slap both hands on the table and shout «Give me the truth, dangit!» until the «good cop» character comes in and tells them to «walk it off» while they try a gentler approach. We know how the suspect doesn’t want to «rat anyone out» and refuses to talk. We know how they chain-smoke inside, even though that’s definitely not legal to do inside anymore. We all know how it goes, it’s one of the most well-defined tropes in media.
