There is nothing more humiliating in school than getting dress coded. I still remember being dress-coded by a teacher I once thought was my friend: the middle school theatre teacher. I soon learned that he was nothing of the sort. He made me change from simple black leggings into sweatpants from the 90s (it was 2014), and I was horrified. I don’t know what changed in him, but one day he snapped and started ranting about the importance of the dress code and how we need to «dress our age.» He raved like a madman about the play Spring Awakening, citing that the main character had to give up her childhood clothes and that we should too. Luckily, our grade banded together in solidarity and refused to bully each other over the 90s pants many of us were subjugated to. 

Luckily, not everyone has to stand idly by and get wrongfully dress-coded. When one mom found out her six-year-old son’s Halloween costume was being weirdly scrutinized by his teacher, she fought back.
