When a teen first gets their driver’s license, they will find any excuse to get behind the wheel and drive around town.
Mom wants to go grocery shopping? Does your younger brother need a ride to his Karate class? Grandma wants to go check out nursery homes? ‘Say less’, you declare as you get inside the driver’s seat, ready to be of service.
That is all fun and games at the start, driving around, feeling like an adult, knowing you can go anywhere you want without having to depend on anyone else, it’s a great feeling. At least, it’s a great feeling until people start taking advantage of that. Until friends start calling you at 11 PM to take them home from a hangout you weren’t invited to, or your mom wakes you up at 7:00 AM to drive your siblings to school.
For any teen out there who is on the verge of getting their driver’s license, just know that at a certain point, you will become the personal driver of the family. Unless you are anything like the teenage daughter in the story below, who refused to help her mom and half-siblings, since it is not her job.
