‘I feel like we were best friends in another life’: Wholesome stories from customer service that show it’s nice to be nice

Working with the general public isn’t all bad.

When it comes to industries like retail, hospitality, and even healthcare, the stories that tend to get the most attention usually involve entitled or crazy customers who think they have the right to do whatever they want and make the lives of employees a lot more difficult in the process. No doubt about it, working with people in this capacity requires an individual to grow a strong backbone and be prepared for the most unexpected and irritating things to happen on shift.

At the same time, if a customer service worker allows all the bad ones to make them a misanthrope, there is genuinely a chance that they miss out on appreciating the more heartwarming side of humanity. Customers are not all bad. Indeed, some of them are a pleasure to serve. At their best, they are capable of bringing a reminder of the fact that there is good in the world, and everybody needs that no matter what industry they happen to work in.

When one food service worker decided to share a sweet positive review that one customer had written about her service, others who worked in customer-facing roles were compelled to talk about their own nice interactions on the job. It just goes to show that the smallest acts of kindness can go a long way.
