Dobby is such a weird character. I understand why Harry Potter needed its own version of Gollum, but Dobby feels more like an annoying obstacle than a character that could actually have a really interesting backstory. I feel like the Harry Potter fandom is pretty split down the middle on whether Dobby is a stupid …

The Best Harry Potter Memes of the Week (May 29, 2024)
I have never been a big fan of the Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them series. I’m happy that more movies are being made about the wizarding world, but I wish that these were different movies. JK Rowling is clearly surrounded by yes men who let her write the screenplay for all of these …

It’s not fair that the Death Eaters have much better fashion than the good guys in Harry Potter. There’s a reason the Harry Potter theme park has a whole Diagon Alley section devoted to selling «dark wizard» paraphernalia and has a much slimmer (or some might say nonexistent) retail market on 19th-century-esque wizard robes. If …

Gilderoy Lockhart is one of the funniest characters in the entire Wizarding World. He’s one of those goofy, incompetent, largely unimportant fake-out villains that could’ve only come out of the first few books. It is such a wonder how this man got hired at this school. Professor Quirrell, I get it. He’s a socially awkward …

I never got the Draco hype. I am so sorry for the girlies who spent their childhoods, teens, and even adulthood pining after that bleach-blonde Death Eater-curious Slytherin; I don’t get it. I understand the appeal of a «bad boy,» but I don’t think Draco fits the bill. For most of the books, he is …

I know it’s popular these days to make fun of Harry Potter fans (specifically millennials) for continuing to identify with their Hogwarts House through adulthood. It’s so simple to make hack jokes about the fact that the characteristics of each house come down to «brave, evil, smart, and nothing.» But let’s be honest: if you …

‘Jingle Bells, Dudley smells, Umbridge go away’: 30+ of the Best Harry Potter Memes of the Week (April 17, 2024)
Say what you will about the Harry Potter series, but they’ve got no shortage of villains. I know it’s not a particularly deep revelation that a children’s series about the battle between good and evil has a lot of baddies, but I think Harry Potter villains stand out! Often, in books or movies where there’s …

I’ve loved watching the evolution of Harry Potter video games over the years. Even if you were a child of the aughts and grew up with the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone PS1 game, you can’t let nostalgia cloud your perceptions. Those games were extremely rough, and no amount of funny Hagrid graphics and …

Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy Hoggy Hogwarts: I’m not going to lie, I lowkey wish I had gone there. I know it’s gauche to wistfully fantasize about attending a Wizard boarding school well into your twenties, but I can’t help it! No fictional school is more appealing than Hogwarts, so forgive me if it takes me a …

If you ask one Harry Potter fan what they think of Severus Snape, chances are you will get a strong opinion. However, get 100 Potterheads in a room, and there’s a chance none of them will share the exact same take on Snape. Over the years, fan opinions have slowly but surely turned against Snape. …
